Java finally got the frost: 26.4 Snapshot 3 (October 6) ports the ice-cave fantasy into snapshot land — Ice Caves biome, Ice Crystals, Icicles, Frostbite, Freezing effect, Ice Balls — plus a Friends UI refresh that actually wants you to bring people into the cold. Soft lab profile. Leather ready. Cathedral stays on stable.
Ice Caves — the player-facing checklist
- New cave biome under colder Overworld biomes — Packed Ice + Calcite primary stone
- Icicles on ceilings; large packed-ice icicles on floor and ceiling
- Ice Crystals on the ground as light (no glow lichen in this biome)
- Snow patches; ores in stone/deepslate pockets; Strays + Frostbites spawn here
- Snow can now sit on Packed Ice; snowballs knock players back
Frostbite and Freezing — how the fight feels
Frostbite is the named frozen zombie: melee applies Freezing, ranged throws Ice Balls (~4 damage + knockback). It walks powder snow, ignores Freezing slowdown, and reverts to zombie if it stays underwater too long. Zombies and husks become Frostbites inside powder snow. Freezing shakes you and damages over time; leather protects like powder snow but does not strip the effect. Brew Freezing potions from Ice Balls; surround a lingering Freezing potion with eight arrows for Arrows of Freezing.
