New Realms features in Java snapshot
Official source by Staff ·

Java Realms hosts get a couple of quality-of-life upgrades in the latest snapshot, aimed at making invites smoother and the view distance more flexible. The team is still iterating, so anything you try here might shift before it lands in a full release.
Invite codes let realm owners create and manage up to five join codes at once. Share a code with friends, and anyone who enters it on the Join Realm screen joins as a member automatically. You can delete a code whenever you want, or set an expiry when you create it. People who already joined through that code stay on the realm until you remove them yourself.
Render distance on Realms can now climb as high as 25 chunks, up from the previous 12-chunk ceiling. Render and simulation distance also get their own sliders, so you can push visuals further without forcing the same setting on how the world simulates.
Hitting Add Realm now opens a clearer introduction screen with pixel art that spells out what Realms offers. If you want to try the snapshot, enable snapshots in the launcher Installations tab, then send feedback if something feels off—these features are still in testing.

Session vibe
Invite-code night on Java Realms is less about grinding and more about rolling out the welcome mat. Treat the snapshot as a host rehearsal: generate a few codes, nudge render distance up, and see how the world feels when friends actually stream in. Keep the playlist soft enough that chat and join pings stay readable.
Player checklist
- Create one short-lived invite code for tonight’s friends and a second code with an expiry for weekend guests, then delete both when the party ends.
- Raise render distance first, then nudge simulation distance only if farms and mobs still feel lively — do not max both on a busy Realm.
- Walk the Add Realm / Join Realm flow once yourself before sending codes in Discord so nobody gets stuck on the wrong screen.

Suggested vibe: warm village-evening pads with light birdsong — hosting ambience, not combat drums.
